Rain has brought up stream levels. Fishing conditions overall should go from good to great through the week. Looks like a few inches of snow which will keep streams at a good level with meltoff in the afternoons. I do have some weekdays and a few weekends available until the end of the month. December is one of the best months of the entire Steelhead season in PA. We are already seeing some fresh run fish come in so this month could see a lot of that given the extremely dry Fall we’ve had. Call me at (412) 997-3577 to check availability and book a trip!

Guided Denny, Sean, and Drew from Ohio and Virginia. We fished a larger trib with good flow most of the day. The color went from stained to perfect with just enough to see fish. Early on we drifted skein and used Flatfish as “search lures” against banks on long stretches. When fish came out to chase we targeted the same area until the fish hit. Once the water started to clear a little we downsized to drifting single eggs and pheasant tails. This produced one hookup after another for some time. A few more fish came on Flatfish. Unfortunately Drew ended up with quite a bit of water in the waders and had to call it a day early on. Denny accompanied him to the truck and was not able to get into fish before their day was over. Sean remained on the stream the rest of the day for some great fishing. He lost a monster buck after a long fight right in the shallows after beating the fish. This fish was the only jumper on the day, going airborne four times. Had Denny and Drew been able to fish I know they would have pulled in many fish through out the day. We found a nice stretch with loads of fish that were visibly chasing down Flatfish and even turning around to go after single eggs and nymphs. Jigs didn’t produce much as the clarity and flow made it tough for that technique. For today it was muce more of the Erie Steelhead fishing we are all used to. I look forward to Denny and Drew taking another trip and getting in some of the fishing they missed out on.

Getting some rain but still not enough. Could be a nice weekend if we get more today and through the night. Right now just calling for drizzle. Would be nice to at least get more color in the water.

Got a text from Dave and Danny who I guided last Saturday. Danny was able to nail a 10.5 lb 32″ inch Steelhead and get a citation for it. He caught it on a Flatfish. Great work Danny! Can’t wait to see the pics. Dave put up a nice comment on the reports page:

“Went fishing with Joe on Saturday the 21st on Nov. and had a blast ! He showed us a few different techniques that really put fish on the hook all day long. On Wednesday the 25th my son Danny landed a 10lb 5oz 32 inch male steel head on a flatfish around noon. Thanks a lot Joe, that was money well spent. -Dave”

Check out that days reports for pics of the fish they caught. I’ll see everyone on the streams the next few days. Hope all had a nice Thanksgiving.
