Dave and Lee came in from southern Virginia and southwestern PA for some fine winter Steelheading. Stream ice and wind did not factor into the equasion but ice on the line did. They both landed many fish from start to finish on jigs, Flatfish, and egg presentations. Most fish piled against banks but a few were caught out of nice flowing runs and pockets. Two large tribs were fished and plenty of fish were found. With snow falling at times it made for a beautiful day on the water. All fish caught were silver or in their prime colors, but no dark fish at all. It was a pleasure to guide these gentlemen and I’m sure Dave is out on the streams today smacking them again. Here’s a few pics of the day.
Just me and an old fishing buddy spent the day on a larger trib and found a lot of fresh run fish in a middle to upper section. Good flow and we found fish holding in almost every pocket. Water was fairly clear. Ice wasn’t too much of a problem but slush floating on top made it tough to swing jigs. Fish were hooked all day on nymphs, skein, and minnow fly patterns. Quite a few big silver fish.
After some freeze ups on the streams and some blowouts from rain Shawn from the Pittsburgh area was finally able to get in a trip for some cold winter Steelhead fishing. With temps in the 20′s and windchills in the single digits we still had open water to fish from the rain the day before. The water was stained in the morning and clearing in the afternoon on most tribs. The morning was spent on a larger pool and Shawn hooked up with quite a few fish until noon on skein, single eggs, and larger nymphs. The clarity didn’t allow for much jigging. Fish held in all areas of the pool and many held in a good drift which allowed for float fishing. Shawn was able to land a 10 lb buck after a long fight that was the fish of the day. Here are just a few of the fish he was able to land.
